What does the sun, antique cars, Sconset, yellow, family, food, clubhouse, and cocktails have in common? The answer is Daffodil Festival on April 29th, 2017.
Since the 1970’s, Nantucket has been celebrating the start of spring with the Annual Daffodil Festival. Look at Johm Maury (yes, Johm) in the side photograph, taken circa 1970 and graciously provided by the Nantucket Historical Association. Johm shows us that Daffodil Festival is about bright yellow flowers, sunshine, and a few crazy outfits (we love his green track suit!) This special day brings the Nantucket community together and is highly anticipated after a long and cold winter.
Starting at 9:30 AM, decorated antique cars will begin lining up on Main Street. Then at 12:00 PM, the cars will circle downtown and then head off to Sconset. After watching the cars leave town, or maybe a little bit before, drive out to Sconset yourself for a different scene. The cars will be lined up and kids and adults will be dancing and eating in the street for Nantucket’s largest picnic.
This year, The Westmoor Club is especially excited for the Sconset tailgate as we will be having a small table with light snacks so that you can stop by and say hello! Chef will be preparing his famous blue fish pate and members of the management team, a relatively new team, will be there to greet you. Look for our yellow hats and of course the Westmoor burgee.
After spending the day in the sun, we will be offering cocktails in the Clubhouse starting at 6:00 PM for members only. Enjoy a special selection of wine provided by the Nantucket Wine Festival (NWF). You will also be able to learn about upcoming NWF events.
Are we missing anything for this perfect day?
